Volunteer with us

Why volunteer with us? The club was founded in 1978 and currently has over 30 squad and development gymnasts and around 175 recreational gymnasts, plus a team of 12 paid coaching staff members and 2 young volunteers supporting the sessions. All of this is made possible because of the dedicated volunteer committee of parents, carers and other supporters.

When you join our volunteer team, you help ensure this hive of activity in Tetbury is carried out safely, with passion, and help us to ensure we can develop the club even further to impact the lives of many more young people.

We have a number of opportunities to volunteer at Tetbury Gymnastics Club. Read on for more information.

Set up and pack down volunteers

Before each session we have to set up the school gym with the equipment for the day, and at the end of the day we have pack this all away again. This takes 30-45 minutes at the start and about 30 minutes at the end.
  • This is ideally suited to a parent/carer dropping off a child and coming in early to help, or vice versa at the end of the session. Gymnasts are not permitted to help, but can sit quietly on the side of the gym whilst parents/carers help us. It is not possible to bring additional children under the age of 14 when you volunteer in this role.
  • This role would also be suitable for a Duke of Edinburgh candidate looking to complete the volunteering element of the award.

Gymnastic assistant volunteers

If you have a passion for gymnastics and sport in general, then why not join our coaching team as a volunteer? We welcome volunteers of all ages and abilities in gymnastics. Our older gymnasts are great in the volunteer role as they can show others how it's done. But you don't have to have a flexible body to become a coach. Anne is one of our coaches, and started as a volunteer at the age of 44. She tells us a bit more about her journey.

"My son had been a gymnast at TGC for years and the club were asking for people to come forward to help, so I did. I started as a volunteer in the sessions, and it was brilliant being able to work along side the experienced coaches, who taught me so much in a very short space of time. Being on the larger side, I was worried about being too big and unfit to be able to support the gymnasts properly, but they soon showed me that this shouldn't be a barrier. After just one term, I found my fitness levels had improved from the physical setting up and packing away as well as the coaching. I was really enjoying the role and loved seeing the gymnasts improve too. After a few months, I was invited to do the gymnastic activity instructor course, which I completed last February, and now I am a paid member of the coaching team. I am even able to lead a session with this qualification if the higher level coaches are not able to make it, helping to ensure that the club continues to run smoothly and the youngsters get the best possible gymnastic experience."

Event volunteers

Our events, such as the club competition and the Christmas display, can only happen with additional volunteers. We rely on parents and carers to help out taking money at the door, serving refreshments, moving equipment and so on. We put out a request for help ahead of these events so you can sign up to help out.
