Arrivals

When you arrive, please register your gymnast at the door to the main hall. This is on the right hand side just beyond the gate to the field. We'll open the door when we're ready to receive you at the start of the registration period. Once registered you can leave them with us and head round to the normal door for entry for our spectators.

What to bring/wear

Please can gymnasts have a bag with them that's big enough for them to put all their belongings in when they're not wearing/using them. This will help ensure you get the right items of clothing, shoes, etc. back at the end of the day! Please name things as well, just in case so we can reunite lost property with it's owner.

All gymnasts should:
  • Wear a black leotard.
       - Female gymnasts over 11 years may also wear black shorts.
       - All male gymnasts should also wear black shorts.
(as detailed on the uniform page)
  • Tie back long hair - plaits are best.
  • Not wear jewellery.
  • Arrive on time, ensuring that they have the appropriate warm up time.

Gymnasts should also have a water bottle with them.

  • Spectators should respect all gymnasts during the competition. Please mute mobile phones and avoid using any noisy technology.

What to expect

General information
  • Gymnasts will have a 15-minute general warm up and then be split into the groups they will compete in.
  • Gymnasts will compete on the floor, vault, and beam.
  • Gymnasts will be given a maximum of three minutes to practise on each piece before they are judged. After this we will ask the gymnasts to be seated in the allocated area so they can perform one at a time.

Judging
  • Judges scores are final.
  • Judges start with a tariff based on the complexity of the routine/vault and then deduct points for each small fault. Small faults can include wobbles, bent legs or arms, not pointing toes,
  • etc. Larger faults will mean larger deductions – examples of these are big involuntary movements, placing the hands down unnecessarily or falling.
  • The scores from all the pieces of apparatus are added together to give a final score. Gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded for overall scores in each group. There will be no ties, in the event of two gymnasts having the same score the gymnast with the higher floor score will be awarded the higher place.

Conduct
  • During the competition we require quiet whilst the gymnasts are competing. Please clap after each performance, this is meant to be fun!
  • Gymnasts that do not win medals or feel they have not competed to the best of their ability will need your positive support.
  • Aggravated behaviour towards judges about scores will not be tolerated. Please endeavour to show good sportsmanship.
